Resumen
Los Comités de Ética Asistencial se han desarrollado en nuestro país a partir de 1974. Su fortaleza estriba en la posibilidad de deliberación entre todos sus miembros, puesto que así se contemplan de forma poliédrica las diferentes visiones del conflicto y se sintetizan en una recomendación final. Sin embargo, únicamente el 1% de los conflictos éticos que se producen en un Hospital llegan al Comité, y cuando se trata de procesos que tienen que ver con el final de la vida, la agonía y la muerte, las recomendaciones llegan tarde. Este fracaso de los Comités ha producido un cierto desánimo en los profesionales de la salud, que por eso han buscado ayuda en los llamados Consultores de ética. En este artículo analizamos el binomio Comité de ética-Consultor de ética, las ventajas y desventajas de esta última opción, para concluir que la figura del Consultor responde mejor a las necesidades exigidas por los problemas éticos que se generan en el día a día del hospital.

Abstract
In Spain, Clinical Ethics Committees started to develop in 1974. Their strength stemmed from the deliberation between its members, which offered the possibility to approach polyhedrally different perspectives on a particular conflict and synthesize them in a final recommendation. Nevertheless, only 1% of the ethical conflicts that arise in a hospital reach the Committee, and when these conflicts have to do with the end of life, agony, or death, the Committee’s recommendations come too late. This failure of the Committees has made health professionals seek help from Ethics Consultants. In this article we analyze the relationship between Ethics Committees and Ethics Consultants, the advantages and disadvantages of the latter, to conclude that the Ethics Consultant role offers a better type of response to the ethical problems that arise in hospitals daily.
