Resumen
La obra de Carlos Alonso Bedate supone una de las grandes contribuciones realizadas al campo de la bioética tanto a nivel nacional como internacional, gracias también a su participación en numerosos comités de bioética. En este artículo se analizará la postura de Bedate sobre la cuestión del estatuto del embrión humano desde su doble condición de científico y sacerdote jesuita, defendiendo la deliberación como el mejor método para alcanzar acuerdos racionales sobre los problemas éticos. Finalmente se examinará la problemática surgida a propósito de los planteamientos científicos de este autor y los compromisos contraídos con la fe cristiana.

Abstract
Carlos Alonso Bedate’s work represents one of the most important contributions to the field of bioethics both nationally and internationally, thanks to his involvement in a large number of bioethics committees. This article analyses Bedate’s stance on the status of the human embryo from the double perspective of the scientist and the Jesuit priest, defending deliberation as the best method to achieve rational agreements on ethical problems. Finally, we examine the problems arising from the superposition of his scientific approaches and his commitment to the Christian faith.
