La necesidad de las publicaciones científicas: Revisión, Calidad, Control y Acceso
Resumen
En este artículo se expone brevemente lo que significan las publicaciones científicas para la Ciencia, el avance del conocimiento y su transmisión a la Sociedad. Se describe el proceso por el que una investigación llega a ser publicada, haciendo énfasis en los pasos a través de los cuales el manuscrito inicial llega a los lectores. Se exponen también los peligros que acechan al mundo de la publicación y la necesidad de que las instituciones estén alerta para mantener la seriedad imprescindible para que la investigación científica y las publicaciones que la describen cumplan su objetivo último: mejorar nuestra calidad de vida.

The Need for Scientific Publications: Review, Quality, Control and Access
Abstract
I herein briefly describe what scientific publications mean for Science, for the advancement of knowledge and its transmission to Society. I describe the process through which research is published, emphasizing the steps by which the initial manuscript reaches the readers. I also expose the dangers of the publishing world and the need for the Institutions to be alert in order to maintain the rigorousness that is essential for scientific research and for the publications that describe it to fulfil their ultimate goal: improving our quality of life.
